Recently Embraer secured major order from virgin Australia for 8 E190-E2 Aircraft. as to make key improvement in the development of airline’s fleet modernization strategy.
According to the release, the new Aircraft is to augment and enhance virgin Australia overall fleet composition and much performance now and in time come.
In total, Virgin Australia will receive 8 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft via a firm order placed.
It is understood deliveries will begin in the second half of 2025, highlighting a quick timeframe for the new aircraft to be delivered.
Furthermore, the aircraft will have a flying range of around six hours.
Virgin Australia have also confirmed that the 8 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft will be based in Perth.
They will operate under the Regional Airlines VARA subsidiary.
It is understood the aircraft will be used to replace the three Fokker 100 aircraft they have.
Furthermore, the other five will be utilized for fleet growth. Commenting on the milestone was Jayne Hrdlicka, Virgin Australia Group CEO:
“When the new E190-E2 enters service from October 2025, it will become the first new aircraft in the WA charter market this century”.
“The E190-E2 is the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its segment and will reduce emissions by about 30 per cent compared to the outgoing F100.”
“These aircraft also feature significantly lower noise profiles and enhanced passenger comfort.”
“When the E190-E2 joins the fleet from late next year it will predominantly operate charter flights for VARA, bolstering its position as a leading operator in the WA charter market.
“This is a huge vote of confidence by the Virgin Australia Group in our charter business and the WA market.”
Adding to this was Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer, Embraer Commercial Aviation:

“We are excited to welcome Virgin Australia to the Embraer family and look forward to seeing our best in class E2 – renowned for comfort, quietness, and low emissions – take the Airline to even greater heights.”
In conclusion, this is another strong commitment from Embraer for the E190-E2 program.
As confirmed by the Embraer Commercial CEO Arjan Meijer at the Farnborough Air Show 2024 that orders would be revealed after the historic event, he was definitely right in that regard.
Looking ahead, all eyes will turn to Virgin Australia to see what routes these aircraft will be deployed on.
This represents a new era in the theme of regional flights for the Australian carrier.
